The Athenian commander Demosthenes established his tiny fort where the eastern cliffs of Koryphaison meet the beach isthmus near the center of the image. Spartan hoplites assaulted this position from their camp to the east and with a daring amphibious landing on the rocky western coastline, but both attacks were repulsed.
